Firmware Updates - NEXUS SEQ

Updating firmware on your NEXUS SEQ is about as easy as it gets.  Just follow the steps carefully and you'll be up and running in no time...

1.  Download and Install the Teensy Loader Application

Mac

Windows 10, 11

Linux (Ubuntu)

2.  Prep NEXUS SEQ

Power down and remove NEXUS SEQ from your rack.  Flip NEXUS SEQ around and locate the gold cover plate on the back of NEXUS SEQ.  Cover plate removal requires a T6 Torx driver.  Remove the two screws and the cover plate and set aside.

Place NEXUS SEQ in the empty hole in your rack upside down and secure.  You can protect the panel with a dish cloth or paper towel.  Connect NEXUS SEQ' power header to your Eurorack power distribution.  IMPORTANT!  Do not short anything accidentally - no screwdrivers, loose screws, hanging around.   Now power on your Eurorack case.

Connect a microUSB cable from the Teensy USB connector to your computer.

3.  Download and install Firmware to NEXUS SEQ

Download the .hex file for the NEXUS SEQ firmware version you desire:

1.0.0: Initial release nexus_seq_1_0_0.ino.hex

Open the Teensy Loader application you installed in step 1.  Click the 'page' icon (pointed to by the red arrow below):

then navigate to the .hex firmware file you downloaded.  Click 'Open.'

Make sure that 'Auto' button is lit green and not dim.  If it's not lit, click to make it green.  It's usually on by default:

Now press the white pushbutton on the top of the Teensy board on NEXUS SEQ...

The program should flash to NEXUS SEQ (you'll see NEXUS SEQ' LEDs blink and flash its startup routine).

You can unplug the USB cable, reinstall NEXUS SEQ back into your rack (be careful when plugging NSX back in if you have the expander!  Only plug NSX to the NSX port!).

You can tell what firmware is installed on power up.  After all of the LEDs blip, the firmware will be shown on the numbered buttons ( the REC LED represents ‘0’).  The SEQ SEL * LED is used for the decimal.  For firmware version 1.0.5, you’d see the LEDs light up like this, in this order:

Reinstall gold cover plate when you're done the firmware update process.

Troubleshooting

Most problems probably come from a funny USB cable or USB hub.  Some USB cables and hubs only supply power so make sure you have a proper cable and hub.

If the firmware version is displaying something different than what you've downloaded and tried to flash, it means it was not flashed and still running the old firmware.
